Editorial Review by Maggi Andersen
When Countess Bettina Jonquiere attempts to deliver an important package reaching England she discovers it to be full of blank papers. Left penniless, her attempt to further the royalist cause in tatters, she finds herself stranded in Cornwall. A feisty and determined woman, Bettina takes a job in a tavern but finds there are many unanswered questions Who can she trust? A man who might have killed his wife? Scott Lewis is an eloquent writer with a good understanding of the period in which she writes. The story kept me interested until the last page with plenty of action, and a touch of romance.
