In recent years, the concurrence of scientists in over 130 countries is now disturbing: global climate change is being caused by human activities and almost half of these emissions come from the energy sector. This climate change has devastating effects on the environment, food and water supply, and human health. Different technologies are being considered with proponents of nuclear energy trying to win the most viable technology war. However, there are a lot of issues to be considered when looking for the most viable technology that is environmentally friendly and competitive. This paper addresses several of these issues, looking at the current situation and potential future developments which may change this situation. The piece tried to assess the viability of nuclear energy as suitable technology for electricity generation by identifying the current status of the market, relevant growth trends, and other issues that may need to be considered.
